Our band has been entertaining groups of all sizes, for all types of events, for quite some time. We are proud to say that we have a loyal following of fans and friends wherever we perform.

We were honored to win Second Place in the Bluegrass Band Contest at Tres Rios RV Park in Glen Rose, TX on May 11, 2002.

We are scheduled to play the Spring Festival at Oakdale Park on April 1-4,
2004.  We are very thankful for this opportunity, and we plan to bring your a top-notch performance.

Lonesome Prairie Bluegrass was formed in 1995 by Paul Cherryhomes and David Hand, veterans of over 40 years of musical experience.

The band today consists of Paul Cherryhomes (standup bass), Steve Marx (rythym and lead guitar), Leon Joplin (dobro),  John Scott (banjo), and Randol Blanton (Mandolin)

We play at numerous community centers and retirement homes throughout the Fort Worth and Weatherford area, as well as various businesses and social functions throughout north central Texas. We have played several bluegrass festivals, and have performed the opening show for touring bluegrass bands.
We are active members and supporters of the Southwest Bluegrass Club.

The repertoire of the band includes original compositions by the band members and professional song writers, traditional bluegrass standards, and songs from other musical genres performed in the unique bluegrass style of  Lonesome Prairie.

(Standup Bass, Guitar, Vocals) plays standup bass and sings lead, tenor, and baritone vocals. Paul's interest in music began at an early age, and he was playing bass guitar in country bands in the 1960's.
Later, his interest turned to bluegrass and the standup bass fiddle. He keeps us all in time with his rock-solid bass line on his vintage Kay bass, and his distinctive tenor voice adds to the uniqueness of the Lonesome Prairie vocals.

(Lead Guitar, Vocals) plays the guitar and sings lead vocals. Steve lives in Cleburne, and he and his wife, Joyce also are bluegrass festival promoters. Steve is the front man and emcee for the group.

(Dobro, Guitar, Vocals) plays the dobro and sings lead, tenor, baritone, and bass vocals. Leon is one of the finest vocalists performing today, bar none. He started playing guitar and steel guitar in 1950, playing country music and gospel music until 1995, when he became interested in a cleaner, more personal music, called bluegrass. His leads are strong, clear, expressive, and loaded with style. He also provides rock solid, powerful dobro fills and instrumentals that fit right in to the Lonesome Prairie sound.

(Banjo, Vocals) plays the banjo and sings lead and bass vocals. A native of Fort Worth, John started playing the banjo in the 1970's and is right at home playing any kind of music you want to play. He is unsurpassed in his ability on the 5-string, and he keeps getting better every day. He keeps us all on our toes, and never fails to surprise us with something new that he has learned. He is an exciting addition to the Lonesome Prairie show.

(Mandolin, Vocals) plays mandolin and sings lead vocals. Randol is our newest member, and makes his home in Euless. We found him at a Southwest Bluegrass Club meeting and kidnapped him. He is always an inspiration for us all.
